Q1 Scientific became ISO 9001 certified on 1st April 2022, following a successful audit of the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) by the NSAI (National Standards Authority of Ireland), demonstrating compliance with these internationally recognised standards.
At Q1 Scientific we maintain an extensive QMS to control and manage every aspect of our sample storage and management service. Last year, Catherine O’Brien our Quality Manager introduced an electronic QMS allowing the entire team to collaborate seamlessly with a full digital record of all activity.
While Q1 Scientific has always operated to GMP standards, in line with the pharmaceutical industry, becoming ISO 9001 certified further enhances our competitiveness as an outsourced stability storage service provider, and better positions us to meet the ever-changing demands and expectations within the pharmaceutical and medical device industry.
What is ISO 9001 certification?
ISO 9001 is the world’s foremost quality management standard, used by hundreds of thousands of organisations in over 170 countries around the globe. It sets out the essential requirements for a practical and effective QMS which is, in essence, a system for minimising risk and maximising opportunity.
The standard is based on several quality management principles, including having a strong customer focus, the involvement of high-level company management, an outlined process-based approach and ongoing improvement in building an effective quality management system.
Gaining ISO 9001 certification
Q1 Scientific’s journey to ISO 9001 certification began in 2021, as part of efforts to give further credibility to our existing QMS. The pursuit of an ISO 9001 certified quality management process has been a top priority for Quality Lead, Linda Sweeney over the last year.
On being awarded the ISO 9001 certification Linda says:
The drive towards becoming a globally-compliant company and the need to constantly evolve was a key motivator for this certification project. Having high operational standards in place already made the ISO audit exercise an interesting one for the team and the road to certification less stressful. This certification is a validation of our efforts in providing a quality stability storage service. I am grateful to the Q1 Scientific team for the support I received towards achieving this milestone.
Q1 Scientific CEO, Stephen Delaney says:
This achievement highlights the importance Q1 Scientific places on having a robust QMS. We believe that it is critically important for our customers and when attracting new customers to see the focus and value that Q1 Scientific is investing in quality management, as demonstrated by becoming certified to this international best practice standard. This ISO 9001 certification is a result of Q1 Scientific’s commitment to remaining a global leader in outsourced environmentally controlled stability storage. We are extremely proud of this achievement and extend thanks to Linda and the entire quality team for the dedication they have shown in working towards the attainment of this certification.
